Chilli & Oregano Garlic Bread

A split baguette slathered in garlic butter mixed with dried oregano, crushed red chilli flakes and a little chopped parsley, then baked until crisp at the crust and buttery through the middle. There's a slow, warming heat that builds as you eat, balanced by the herby, slightly floral oregano. It's simple, with no cheese, letting the butter, chilli and herbs come through clearly.

It's sliced into chunky pieces and brought to the table in a paper-lined basket. It goes perfectly with pasta or a tomato-based main. Of our garlic breads, this is the one with a kick — the chilli makes it more lively than the classic, but it stays easy to share.
